Her Bible

My mother lived her life for Christ. She purposed in her heart to be devoted to God in all areas of her life. She took seriously the study of the Word while trying to balance her many roles. She looked to my father as the head of their house hold for leadership and encouragement.

Her Bible is very special to me and my goal is to use it to study from with my children in the same way she taught us.

One of the many special things my mother did to pass on the faith to us was putting Bible verses up around the house. She loved stickers and pretty little note pads. All over our home were verses stuck in places were you couldn’t miss them; in the bathroom, next to the kitchen sink and in notes she wrote to us. I quickly memorized these verses seeing them over and over again. They often carried a similar theme of obedience to parents, God and living a wise life. Some of the verses were

Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it. Proverbs 22:6

I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Psalm 119:11

She had notes and verses she wanted to remember written in the front and back of her Bible.

Julienne Blomgren, 44, of Boone, died on Monday morning, May 16, 2005, due to cancer. Services were held Thursday morning, May 19th at 11 a.m. at the Oakwood Road Church in Ames, Iowa, with pastor George Stagg officiating. Interment was at Squire Boone Cemetery southeast of Boone.

She was born on March 24, 1961, in Ames, the daughter of Jim and Joyce (Bravard) Safly. On April 6th, 1980, she married Douglas Eugene Blomgren at St. Andrews in Ames. She was a 1979 graduate of United Community School. She was a k-12 teacher, a transportation director, a recreation director, a financial planner, a chef for hundreds, a 4-H leader, and an assistant to her husband at Blomgren Seed. She was a member of Oakwood Road Church, Ames, where she served as a Sunday school teacher. She has also served the Lord as a youth group leader, and a Vacation Bible School teacher. She has been involved in 4-H all of her life as an active member and leader, most recently with the Luther Livewires. She also served as a leader of Heart ‘n’ Home.

At the time, her father-in-law, Robert Blomgren preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband of twenty-five years, Douglas of Boone, three daughters, Jennifer Ciha and her husband Thomas of Slater, Sarah and Stephanie Blomgren at home, three sons, Sean Blomgren of Boone, and his fiancé Katie Lem of Kelly, Joshua and James Blomgren at home; her parents Jim and Joyce Safly of Ames, mother-in-law June Blomgren of Boone, a loving brother Joel Safly of Fort Myers, Fla., a sister and best friend, Janet Kilmer (Brain) of Ames, and a brother Jason Safly (Anne) of Lenexa, Kan., and “adopted” brother Bob Green of Ames, her grandfather and grandmother, Howard and Frances Safly of Ames, her grandmother Ella Bravard of Alta and several nieces, nephews, cousins, brother-in-laws, and sister-in-laws.
